Cllr Russell, Lead member for Leisure and Arts, lit up Maidstone with a fantastic parade in the town centre stretching from County Hall to Jubilee Square.
The event was free of charge to attend and was able to be put on thanks to the UK Share Prosperity Fund grant. Residents lined the streets as children paraded their homemade lanterns along the route, accompanied by street entertainment and music, culminating in a music and light display outside the town hall.
The event was enjoyed by thousands and had been highly promoted on all media channels. It is hoped that we may be able to put a similar event on next year and we thank our partners at OneMaidstone and Cohesion Plus for helping to put on the event.
Cllr Russell said;
"This was so amazing. The children brought their beautiful handmade lanterns and lit up Maidstone superbly. What a great party atmosphere and real community spirit. All helping to restore pride to Maidstone, our county town.
Thanks so much to everyone that came along and made it so fabulous, to the MBC team that made the event happen on the day, and to Cohesion Plus and One Maidstone our fantastic partners that made this event possible. Leisure and Arts is my wonderful cabinet portfolio and I love being part of revitalising the town centre with these events."
