Martin has been elected for two terms so far and was first elected in 2014 to serve the residents of his beloved Headcorn Ward. He has worked closely with the Parish Council and has also served as a Parish Councillor for Headcorn so is ideally placed to be aware of and to help out with resolving local issues in the Ward.
Martin is passionate about the environment and is working hard to ensure that the environment features highly in every decision taken at the Borough Council.
Martin has been "man and boy" Headcorn from an early age. He has always a been a community activist, from maintaining the Church grounds as a Boy Scout and being a chorister and member of the Methodist Church Youth club.
He then went on to play very high level Rugby in an Amateur world and become a Director of a world famous food company , whilst putting defence issues at the fore (serving time in Northern Ireland in 1979-85) and then other food concerns before settling into local government economic development roles and then teaching after a serious road accident that put him into a wheelchair for years. A Conservative that hopes competitive business management can also support those most vulnerable at every level, whilst the environment and rural matters are always given every consideration.
Martin recognises that there is a need to build housing within our communities but that Headcorn has had a lot of housing built already, without the accompanying infrastructure. Martin will fight hard at all levels to represent Headcorn and to make sure that it gets the infrastructure that was promised.
Martin was re-elected as the Maidstone Borough Councillor for Headcorn ward in May 2022, and again in May 2024. He has been elected as Deputy Mayor with his term starting in May 2024.
