John Perry is a Chartered Certified Accountant, with an honours degree in History and Classics and an MBA from one of the UK’s leading business schools. John has worked in both the private and public sectors and has acted as an advisor to both the UK Government and Foreign Governments on the funding and financing of air navigation systems. He currently runs a consultancy company, which continues to provide financial and economic advice in this field.
John is married with three sons and four grandchildren and has lived in Staplehurst since 2006. He joined the Parish Council in 2007 and was elected Chairman in 2010. In 2014 he was elected to Maidstone Borough Council as a Ward Member for Staplehurst and was appointed to the Cabinet with responsibility for Community and Leisure Services. John served as Chairman of the Planning Committee in 2016-17 and the Audit, Governance and Standards Committee in 2021-22. John was the Leader of the Conservative Group at Maidstone Borough Council from 2017 to May 2021. John is currently the Cabinet member for Corporate Services.
John continues to be an active member of Staplehurst Parish Council and is currently Vice-Chairman. In addition, he is a Trustee of Jubilee Fields.
John was re-elected as a Maidstone Borough Councillor in May 2022 and again in 2024. He was elected Mayor of Maidstone in May 2024.
